I’m going to show you how simple it is to make a cake prop for the side face of your cake. This is a unique twist on the classic cake topper. Cake props can be used in SO many different ways, and you can recreate this project with ANY theme you’d like.

For this project, I have created a “Class of 2022” layered die cut, but you can do this whether you have a cutting machine or not. You could print the words out and trace them, then add layers of cardstock behind and just hand cut it out. 

Supplies:

• Silver Holographic Sparkle Paper
• Bazzill Fourz in Avalanche and Arctic
• Black Prince Glitter Silk Cardstock
• 3D Foam Squares
• Two 4” cake top sticks (you can use white lollipop sticks, clear acrylic sticks, or even toothpicks)
• Craft glue (I use Bearly Arts Precision Craft Glue)
• Hot Glue

I created my die cut using a pretty cursive font. Make sure you know the size of your cake so you can size appropriately.

I like to make mine a little larger than the face so that it really pops. Once I had all my layers assembled, I turned it over and used a strip of cardstock (I used the same color as the base of my die cut) and sized it at 3”x.5”. I then took it and folded it into three parts so that it would create two flaps.

Once I had my paper strip folded, I used a hot glue gun to secure it to the back of the cut out. Lastly, I took a cake top stick and hot glued one to each flap.

The die cut then slides into the front of the cake using the two cake sticks.
