Bleach Stamping Handmade Cards
Thu, Feb 05, 26
Design Team Member Kate is back to show you how to stamp with bleach! Yes, you read that right. She tried this technique a few years ago (HERE) , but wanted to give it a fresh spin with our Encore Smooth Cardstock line. Plus add in a seasonal touch like with these Valentines cards and you've got a fun new card making technique!
I'm not really into mixed media (too messy for me) but I love to dabble in some quick and easy techniques. I've done this bleaching technique before and decided to try it again and I was quite surprised at the results. Keep reading to see what happened - I even had an epic fail (and left it in this blog post)!
Heat Embossing Handmade Cards
I started by stamping and heat embossing (with black ink and clear embossing powder) the heart background on 3 pieces of Encore Smooth Cardstock (in Party Pink, Hot Pink and Pink Grapefruit).
The embossing creates borders or wells that will contain the bleach as you paint it onto the card panel. I took a small amount of bleach and a paintbrush and randomly painted several hearts. Allow to dry to see the magical change of color.
The Party Pink panel had the most change. The hearts turned a cream color.
The hearts on the Hot Pink panel turned a lighter shade and had a subtle tone on tone effect.
But NOTHING happened on the Pink Grapefruit panel!! It just looked wet when I painted on the bleach, but there was NO color change. It was kind of fun to see what would happen with each color.
I finished the cards with a simple die cut sentiment and tossed out the Pink Grapefruit panel!
Try experimenting with bleach. You could even create some fun splatters with the bleach to add some interest and texture.
