DIY Decorated Graduation Cap Tutorial
All (adult) grad caps are pretty much the same size (9 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches). They usually are delivered to the students close to the date of graduation, but you can get the design ready weeks before and just attach it when the cap arrives.
Start with a piece of cardstock and trim to 9 1/2 inches square. Turn over the paper and create an "X" from corner to corner to determine the center. Cut a small circle from the center to fit over the center button of the cap (the tassel attaches to this button so it doesn't need to be perfect).
Most graduates have an idea of their theme or caption. You can use stickers, gems, specialty papers and even faux flowers/trinkets.
Now you just need to decorate the diamond cap. It is technically a square, but you want to orient it as a diamond since that is the way it will be worn. Make sure you do not cover the center hole with your design (you still need it to add the tassel).
For mine I used die cut Sunflowers and this fun sentiment.
After decoration, you want to attach the diamond to the cap with a strong adhesive. I used some hot glue.
There are so many fun design ideas out there, all it takes is some great cardstock and creativity to make your own decorated graduation cap!
