Ideas For Using Large Letter Dies on Handmade Cards

Thu, Feb 08, 24 . Michelle Price

Design Team Member Kate is on a mission to use what she already has in her paper craft stash. Through the years she's collected several of the trendy large word dies. Today she's diving into ideas to stretch her dies with some clever handmade card designs for large words and large letter dies.

And if you are a Cricut or Silhouette user, you can recreate these ideas in your cutting software using your favorite font.

Large Letter Die Idea #1

Use some strips (or here she used some slice dies) and layer cardstock on a solid card panel the size of your finished card. Once you've created a panel of cardstock strips, cut the large word dies from the panel and use some foam tape to pop up the word, then mount the card panel on a folded card base.

You can also do the reverse and pop up the negative of the panel, leaving the word as a lower layer.

Use smaller dies from your stash to decorate a base panel.  Cut the large word die from a different solid panel and pop up with foam tape on TOP of the decorated panel.
The smaller dies peak through the open spaces of the word die and almost look like patterned paper.

Of course Kate couldn't pass up the chance to use paper strips. It's one of her signature looks and she blew our minds when she first shared a paper strips card
For this handmade card design, use the paper strips to create a pattern under your popped up top panel.  It can be a full panel covered in strips or just a few strips like Kate used here.
