DIY Paper Book Boxes
Hey Craft Friends - Amanda from Lace Designs Studio here. I decided to create this book trio for all the whimsical crafters and book lovers out there! Using soft pastel cardstock colors with bold accents, these paper books will make every moment magical, whether using for gifting, baby showers, birthdays or nursery decor. I purchased this file from Etsy and here is the link: Paper Book SVG.
As always, you’ll need to upload the file into your cutting machine software and if you’d like to resize, do so while grouped. I didn’t resize this file and used it at the uploaded size, however, I did remove the heart cutout using 'contour' on Cricut Design Space.
For the text on the book spine and the frame on the front, I scored the letters on to the book to make it easier for placement. To do this, make a copy of your text/frame, change it to score, select the scored text/frame and your book, and click attach. Using tweezers for the small letters, I glued each one onto the spine and then repeated for the frame. It's easiest to do this while the book is still flat.
Next, we’re going to start assembling the pages which will be the frame of the book box. The two pieces identical in size will serve as the inside part of the rectangle, and the longer strip and shorter strip will serve as the outside part. Grab one of the identical sides and fold so the texture remains on the outside and then fold the strips and add glue to glue along the inside edge. Repeat for the opposite side of the box.
Now, you’ll do the same for the other two strips, starting from either the bottom or the top, grab the larger strip and then glue the smaller. Carefully glue the small tabs to the book flap by folding it over. You may need to hold it for a few seconds if you’re using liquid glue so it dries correctly. Next, carefully glue the top part of the frame onto each remaining tab to finish off the shape of the box.
Grab the sheet that looks like the inside part of a book and fold along the scored lines. Then add glue to the underside of one and try to center it inside the book.
Lastly, apply glue on one side of the box frame and position in the center of the sheet that was glued down. Once you have that in, carefully glue the remaining loose sheet into your book and you’re all set. This can hold gift cards, candy, small party favors, etc. or be left empty and used as decor.
I hope you enjoy this whimsy craft that combines a love for books and paper crafts! This would be an excellent craft for book clubs.
