How To Dress Up Scrapbook Titles

Hi 12x12 Cardstock Shop fans! Guest Designer Kira Sortor here with you today to share some tips for making your cardstock scrapbook titles stand out!

As an avid scrapper, I know plenty of ways to add just the right amount of POP to your titles and wording. Dressing up the wording in your scrapbooks can be simple with just a few easy techniques, and here are some of my favorites.

4 Tips For Making Your Cardstock Scrapbook Titles Stand Out


SCRAPBOOK TITLES TECHNIQUE 1: USE TEXTURED CARDSTOCK

I love playing with different textured papers! In this title above, I am using textured cardstock in the sun, which is Bazzill Mexican Poppy; and the ”Beach” sentiment is Encore White Embossed Wood Grain. Now I'll show you the simple steps to shading these papers with versa magic inks.

I first shade the sun using red ink against the yellow cardstock (Red Magic). I always go a shade darker than the cardstock itself when choosing colors to shade the edges. 
Using a dark blue ink (Prussian Blue) I lightly shade the bottom of each letter. This really brings out the texture of the cardstock.
The top of the letter I used a brown ink (Jumbo Java) and left the middle of the word white.

SCRAPBOOK TITLES TECHNIQUE 2: CHOOSE THE RIGHT FONTS

When choosing a font, I always choose a big bubbly font for the focused word or title theme. This allows you plenty of space to showcase the techniques I am sharing. The secondary word or sentiment I use a thin script font to go over the larger font. This maintains the flow of your title or sentiment and keeps it simple and clean. Sometimes simple is better! 

SCRAPBOOK TITLES TECHNIQUE 3: CHANGE UP YOUR TITLE ORIENTATION

Making a vertical/slimline title is very simple with! In most design softwares you can simply type each letter, with the enter key between the letters, to allow them to align vertically (like June and July).

For the scripty words (“2025” and “fourth of” in these samples) I typically type out horizontal first. Then I select it and rotate it with my mouse, aligning it to overlap the larger font.


SCRAPBOOK TITLES TECHNIQUE 4: DECORATE INDIVIDUAL LETTERS

This title I made with the intent of having each letter represent the word itself. The letter “J” represents fathers day with a tie, using AC Smoke, Bazzill Turquoise Mist, and Bazzill Candy Pearls cardstock. The letter “U” is a flamingo in water using Bazzill Sour Lemon, Bazzill Fussy, and Bazzill Avalanche cardstock. The letter “N” is a watermelon using Bazzill Red, Bazzill Raven, and Bazzill Spearmint Stick cardstock. Lastly, the letter “E” is a rising sun with Bazzill Citrus Slice and Bazzill Sour Lemon cardstock.

Thinking about each individual letter as a mini canvas makes for a fun and unique look.

Using these simple techniques will make your cardstock scrapbook titles look so cool. All it takes are a few easy tips and you'll get DIY scrapbook titles and wording that looks professional! I hope you enjoy using these ideas with all your paper crafts and happy crafting!
