11 Ideas For Using Glitter Cardstock
Glitter cardstock is one of my favorite ways to give my paper craft projects a bit of a boost. The unexpected shine elevates the whole project! But if you are new to using specialty cardstock, I can see how you might be uncertain about how to use glitter cardstock on projects. Luckily the 12x12 Cardstock Shop Design Team has tons of great ideas for you!
How to Use Glitter Cardstock
Glitter Cardstock Idea #1: Create Bold Glitter Sentiments
Glitter Cardstock Idea #2: Create Ombre Glitter Designs
Glitter Cardstock Idea #3: Add a Glitter Shadow Layer
Design Team Member April is the queen of cardstock layering and we've noticed she often adds a shadow layer of glitter cardstock behind her top layer. Glitter paper looks cool behind shapes and behind sentiments and it gives your project just a little hint of shine. See Cherry Tags Project here.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #4 : Use Glitter On Popular Strip Card Projects
Strip cards are trending right now and Design Team Member Kate has shared traditional strip card ideas in the past, but we love her glittery take on a handmade birthday card where she's used glitter cardstock strips as her candles. Consider using glitter cardstock in place of regular cardstock on all kinds of strip card projects. See Glitter Candles Project here.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #5: Use Glitter As Detail Accent Layers
Our Glitter Luxe and Sequin Glitter Cardstock cuts great and that allows you to add detailed accent layers to your projects using glitter paper. This concept looks especially cool on butterflies, flowers and leaves. The shine is unreal on our Sequin Glitter Cardstock and we love how Design Team Member April used it in this project. See Mother's Day Flower Picks Project here.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #5: Use In Place of Basic White Cardstock
Why stick with basic white cardstock, when you can use a shimmery white glitter cardstock instead? We have four different white glitter cardstocks, Bright White, Silver Speckled White, White Opal and No-Shed White Glitter Cardstock. We love how Designer Kate made shimmery clouds for her handmade card. See Rainbow Card Project here.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #6: Create Snowy Accents
One more reason to love white glitter cardstock - we love the look of glitter cardstock as snow! It shimmers just like the real thing, but it never melts. Silver Speckled White Glitter Cardstock is our favorite pick for snow on papercraft projects. Former Design Team Member Pam created this winter scene using layers of glitter, foil and vellum papers. See Winter Scene Project here.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #7: Cut Large Glitter Shapes As Sentiment Layers
Instead of using glitter cardstock in subtle ways, go bold and cut large glitter shapes to mount your sentiments on. We love how designer Tara put a large red heart under her white sentiment and made the whole thing pop off the card. See Valentine Card here.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #8: Create Glitter Rainbows
Glitter Cardstock is the perfect paper to cut rainbows from! You'll get the shine of glitter that makes each individual layer stand out. We love how Design Team Member Michelle paired the bright glitter rainbow with a black sentiment on this handmade card. See Glitter Rainbow Card here.
For an even easier option, check out our Rainbow Glitter Paper that has the rainbow built right in.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #9: Layer Glitter Cardstock Behind Foil
We love how the shine of the glitter mixes with the shine of the foil on this handmade Christmas card by Design Team Member Kate. To get this look, find layered dies that have a larger background shape and a top intricate layer. See Handmade Christmas card here.
Design Team Member Michelle did the same technique with a leaf SVG file. See Leaf card here.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #10: Make Glitter Cardstock The Star Of The Show
While we love the look of glitter accents here and there, we REALLY love when glitter is the star of the show. Design Team Member Kate used a large square of glitter as the focal point of her card, then added shadowy die cuts on top. See Graduation Card here.
Glitter Cardstock Idea #11: Create Glitter Inlay Sentiments
We love the look of large sentiments on handmade cards, but this design by Design Team Member Kate is just extra special. She's used a sentiment die to create inlaid glitter letters. Cut your sentiment from basic cardstock, then cut it from glitter cardstock and fit the pieces in place like a puzzle. Genius! See Inlaid Glitter Card here.
I hope we've inspired you to give glitter cardstock a try on your next paper craft project. We have lots of glitter colors to choose from in our three main glitter cardstock lines...
