Die Cut Hack For Handmade Cards - Paper Piecing
Thu, May 14, 26
Design Team member Kate is here with a reminder that your dies can be multi-colored even if the die itself isn't designed in several layers. All you need to do is PAPER PIECE. This die cut hack can make all the difference for your handmade cards!
This spaceship die is only one layer, but Kate achieved a multi colored ship by die cutting the ship from four different colors of foil and trimming the specific parts to make it appear that it is a layered die.
Certain parts of the ship can be inlayed together (like the gold windows) and other parts are attached with Bearly Arts glue right on top of the silver ship base.
Same goes for the flame that was pieced together with glitter cardstock. The smoke is die cut from vellum.
Kate did not want to use a rectangle as the background, so she free handed a blob on a scrap piece of paper and trimmed it. Then she was able to use it to trace on the back side of the Starry Night Glitter Cardstock. TIP: The Starry Night cardstock has a white core, so Kate took a black marker to cover the edges of the blob so it looked finished)
Kate added a few foil stars and her new favorite embellishment--Glow In The Dark star embellishments.
What a great card for those little astronauts in your life. With this paper piecing die cut hack you can make even the simplest cuts stand out!
