3D Mushroom House | DIY Fairy Party Decor

Hi Crafty Friends! Amanda from Lace Design Studios here. I stumbled across this project in Cricut Design Space and fell absolutely in love with this 3D Mushroom House, maybe because I had just mailed out a Smurf’s party order and felt that this would have been perfect to go with it! I also think a Fairy Party could use this mushroom for whimsical decor or even a DIY fairy party favor. What would you use these for? 

3D Mushroom House Tutorial

I decided to start with placing the white dots onto the mushroom head just to minimize some of the pieces on my desk. This part is up to you, place as little or as many of the small circles as you’d like. Keep in mind, there are two hexagon pieces and one of the hexagons will be covered, so you only need to place dots on one - whichever you choose. 

Now that we’ve folded along the scored lines, it’s time for us to glue those flaps. I added glue to the triangular tabs and placed them under the hexagon piece that I did not glue dots on. I did this one at a time until I got to the last tab. The small piece to close the mushroom head should be glued inside so that it is hidden. Now you’ll add glue to the top of the blank hexagon and place the one with the dots on top of it. 

Next, we’re moving onto the mushroom stem. Similar to the mushroom head, we’ll go ahead and use our bone folder to fold along the scored lines. One set of tabs will be folded inward, and one set outward - I decided to fold the tabs that would be placed outward after I sealed the hexagon closure. That being said, once you’ve folded the tabs that will go inward, you can place glue on each tab and connect the hexagon. When you get to the last tab, you can add glue along the side to seal it. Once sealed, fold the remaining tabs outward. 

The assembly for this next piece is also very easy. We’re going to fold along the scored lines. Note here that you’ll want the texture to be shown when its glued to the mushroom, so we’re going to score the tabs down, with texture visible. Once scored, we’re going to flip our stem upside down so we can add glue on the tabs we folded outward earlier. Then you’ll slide the red open piece onto the stem and using some pressure (I used the bone folder), you’ll press along the tabs to seal them in. Now that the beige tabs are glued and in place, we’ll add glue onto the textured side of the red tabs, one by one, and connect the mushroom head.  

Finally, since our mushroom is done, we can add our decorative elements. I glued the door pieces together first, then glued the windows onto each side of the stem and finished off with adding the grass. I used a weeding tool to lightly curve the grass so that it didn’t lay flat on the mushroom stem. Then I added a thin line of glue along the bottom and started carefully placing it onto the stem. I repeated with the second piece of grass, connecting them and then I had a beautifully decorated mushroom! Ready for table decor for a fairy themed party!!
