DIY Paper Backpack Gift Box

DIY Paper Backpack Gift Box

Hey, Amanda here from Lace Design Studio! Today I will be showing you how I made this DIY paper backpack gift box using various cardstock from 12x12 Cardstock Shop and this Free Backpack SVG File. This handmade backpack is really simple to put together and can be used for any theme, making it the perfect party favor box.

I decided to start by assembling the crayon box and all of my decorative pieces for my theme before starting the main box assembly. For the crayon box, you’ll want to fold along the scored dashes and apply glue before getting aside. I'm using the gorgeous Antique Diamonds Gold Foil from 12x12 Cardstock Shop.

Moving on to the main box, which serves as the back piece, we’re going to glue our side panels and grab our additional decorative layer that will have the straps inserted. After inserted them, glue the inside flaps down and set to the side - we won’t assemble just yet so that we can keep working with a flat surface.

Then, grabbing the main box again, we’ll fold along the scored dashed lines and start gluing our flaps to form the shape of the box. Once the bottom and sides are glued, we’ll need to carefully add glue to the small triangles at the top and carefully align the edges so the top of the box closes perfectly.

Now we’re going to add the front panels to the box. After gluing the main layer in and repeating the steps for gluing the triangles at the top, grab the decorative layer and glue it directly on. Next, on the “flap” portion of the bag, you’ll see marked lines where you can perfectly glue in your hooks. The next part you can choose to use foam adhesive squares as I did, or glue directly on, but we’ll add a smaller decorative layer on the flap.

Next, we’re going to assemble the envelope pocket where our coloring sheets will go inside. Fold inward the two flaps on the right and left and add just a small line of glue around the edge of the bottom piece and fold upwards to attach. Now it’s time to start adding our decorative pieces. I used a velcro dot on the envelope flap to have access to the coloring sheets - you may also use the velcro dot as the bind for the flaps and not apply glue inward, it may be easier to remove the sheets depending on your use of foam squares at the top and the height of them. I also used a velcro dot under the top flap with the hooks so there is access to being able to put goodies inside the box; perfect for small snacks, toys, playdoh, etc.

At this time, we’ll go ahead and glue the back panel with the straps to the back of our box. Next, we’ll do the same for the top - insert the small strip into each cut line and glue before gluing down the layer onto the box. Time to add any final decorations you wish to and glue the crayon holder onto the side of the box!

Finally, have fun printing out your coloring sheets and placing them inside the envelope and then fill the inside of the box with some extra fun goodies!
