Want to try two techniques in one handmade card? If you don't already know, Design Team Member Kate loves making cards with strips of paper (Paper Strip Window Card Tutorial). She also loves making eclipse cards (Stamped Eclipse Card Tutorial). Here's a card tutorial that combines both ideas into one handmade Christmas card, with this paper strip eclipse card!

To make an A2 card (5 1/2 x 4 1/4) start with a piece of patterned paper measuring 4 1/4 x 6 (you will need to trim it down at the end). Cut that patterned paper panel into 1/2 inch strips. Be sure to lay the strips out in the exact order that they are cut. This is key to the eclipse look
Line the backs of EVERY OTHER strip with several slightly smaller than 1/2 inch strips (Kate used three layers) of heavyweight cardstock to add dimension. You could probably use foam tape but the paper makes the card more durable and you don't see foam when you look at it from the side.

Now attach the strips IN ORDER to your card base. One strip is adhered flat on the card base and the next is the thicker (dimensional) strip. Continue this process until the entire card front is covered. Trim off any excess.

Now just add your sentiment and embellish the card!

This is a great card making technique for that patterned paper you love and never want to cut! It still appears as a full sheet but has an interesting texture and finish. Now a usually simple handmade card has something unique!
