Gift Card Holder Fun Fold Christmas Card

Christmas fun fold card tutorial

It's that time of year...when you don't know what to get someone, you get them a gift card! Design Team member Kate here, with a special fun fold card tutorial that can hold that gift card.

Christmas Fun Fold Card Tutorial
Supplies:
Cut your pieces as follows:
  • Card Base: A top folding A2 card (4 1/4" x 11") scored at 5 1/2"
  • Patterned paper: 4" x 2 1/2" (front flap)  4" x 5 1/4" (inside flap)
  • Front panel rectangle: 2 3/4" x 4" (you can give this an extra mat layer by cutting a piece 3" x 4 1/4")
  • Inside panel for sentiment: 2 3/4" x 4"

NOTE: If you learn better by video, watch Kate assemble this here.

Score the front flap of the card base in half at 2 3/4".  Fold this back to form the pocket for the gift card.  I cut 1/4 inch off from the flap to leave some space for inserting the gift card.  I also used a 3 /4" circle punch to create a notch for accessing the gift card.  Use a strong adhesive to attach only the sides of the gift card pocket.

When the fun fold Christmas Card is closed, you have back panel that is the inside of the card, and then a half panel that has the gift card on the inside.
Decorate the front of your card by adhering the decorated front panel pieces to the closed half.  You can orient it in lots of different ways: side folding (landscape), top or bottom opening.  Make sure to only attach your decorated panel to the folded flap of the gift card pocket (lesson learned!)

This is a great card for any season!  I’m going to make these for all the teen birthdays I have during the year (since teens only want cash!). This is also a great card for those essential workers during the holidays!

    Rita-
Kate is a great one to follow. She’s the designer who made this project and she does not use a Cricut. You can see all of her projects here https://www.12×12cardstock.shop/blogs/news/tagged/design-team-member-kate-deignan

I have a cricut, but I love learning about manual diecutting. I have been thinking it would be fun not to have to deal with a computer and cricut and just make things in a more manual and organic way. I would be so greatful for suggestions and resources in how to get started this way. I love your shop! Thank you for helping in my papercrafting hobby.

Nice idea! One suggestion: maybe score the flap at 2 1/2", instead of 2 3/4". Then you will have a whole half inch to remove the gift card, instead of cutting off the 1/4" strip.
I will probably do a few of these this year, then make more for next year, after Christmas.
