Heat Embossing Mulberry Paper

Heat Embossing Mulberry Paper

Design Team Member Kate here.  I'm always looking for ways to stretch my supplies.  Today I'm here with an idea for using your background stamps and the Thai Unryu line (mulberry paper).  Did you know that you can stamp and even HEAT EMBOSS on the Thai Unryu paper? These mulberry paper ideas will give a beautiful effect that you'll want to try, and here's how!

Heat Embossed Butterfly Card
I stamped a sunflower background stamp directly on my card base in an ink color that matches the Thai Unryu paper I wanted to use.

Leaving the stamp in the stamping platform (and cleaning the stamp well) I used my clear embossing ink to stamp on the diecut mulberry paper butterfly.  I then carefully used my tweezers (grabbing in the center of the butterfly) to dip the butterfly in embossing powder and gently heat embossed.  Make sure your heat gun is very hot and move the gun back and forth quickly to melt the powder.

I cut a butterfly from acetate and placed it behind the Thai Unryu butterfly to give it some lift and shape.  I hid all the adhesive under the body of the butterfly.

I popped up the butterfly (under the body) with some foam tape and added a sentiment and gems.

Now I had to try the same idea with lots of other colors of mulberry paper. You don't even need to heat emboss, you can use regular ink.  On some of the butterflies, I used a darker shade of the background ink and the same ink color on others.

Now I have loads of unique and beautiful handmade cards! Which color is your favorite?
