Mosaic Handmade Card Made With Scraps

Mosaic Handmade Card Made With Scraps

Hello 12x12 Cardstock Shop fans! Christi for Scrapping For Tranquility bringing you a card made out of scraps. So easy and fun and comes out pretty and could even be used for a masculine card idea. Without further ado here is what it will look like when the card is completed.

Let’s see what it took to get from a pile of scraps to a cool card... First, I pulled out a base and had it ready to go. I did this design right on the base because it is heavy and thick. I use Neenah Classic Crest Solar White for all my card bases. I folded it and set it aside, and began cutting up my scraps into one inch wide strips.

It doesn’t matter how long they are; you are going to cut up the one inch strips. When you are done with your one inch strips, you start cutting the strips into different shapes. Any way you would like, as long as they will fit together somehow.

Next, we are going to start somewhat in the middle of the card base and start gluing on your pieces.

You take a second piece in a different color and fit it around the first piece but not quite touching it. I left about an 1/8 inch throughout the card, between colors.

Keep glueing until you have the whole face of the base covered. Do not worry about going over the edges of the card with the pieces, those will be trimmed off later.

When you are done gluing all your pieces down, this is what it should look like. Now we are going to turn the card over and cut the excess hanging over the card right up to the base. Caution: Be careful not to cut your base.

I then embossed the whole front of the card in a translucent embossing powder. Wait till you see how the vellum scraps I used look with embossing powder! SO cool!

I then wanted to put a sentiment on. I loved how the orange vellum came out so I chose that as my background strip to lay my sentiment on and pulled out a wood veneer Happy Birthday. It wasn’t the look I was going for so I decided to heat emboss it with Buttercup Embossing powder by Ranger and clear embossing ink by Brutus Monroe.

As you can see it is working quite well. But it still wasn’t quite right. I then tried heat embossing over the yellow embossing layer with the translucent embossing powder. It came out FANTASTIC! Just what I was looking for.

Taking the clear embossing ink and translucent heat embossing powder, I embossed the orange vellum strip that is to hold my sentiment.

Here are the items I used in this photo. See how it sparkles like diamonds? I think it is so pretty but at the same time it could be a masculine card with all the primary colors. Let’s take one last look at the finished project:

What do you think about how the vellum turned out? I really liked it and will be embossing it a lot more in the future.
