Paper Strip Window Card Tutorial

Paper Strip Window Card Tutorial

Design Team Member Kate made this card making reel on Instagram and it was a big hit! After many requests, here are some step-by-step directions so you can create your own paper strip window card.

You will need a top panel measuring 4 x 5 1/4 inches and a card base.  For her card base, Kate chose a top folding A2 card measuring 11 x 4 1/4 scored at 5 1/2 inches.  You will also need thin strips of cardstock. Kate used a die that cuts 1/8 inch strips, but you can cut your strips on a paper trimmer.

Cut your window shape (Kate used a rounded oval die) from your top panel.  Then lay the card panel on top of the card base and use the window panel to align and cut the same shape into the card front.

Now flip the panel over and line the edges of the shape with double sided adhesive.  Now it's time to attach the strips to the back side of the top panel. Kate used her Glassboard Studios mat to keep the strips straight.

Once you cover the entire opening with your strips, trim any strips hanging over the edge and adhere the top panel over the opening on the card base.

Because the front of the card is see-thru, you will need to attach a card on the inside to write your greeting.  This card will measure 3 3/4 inches by 10 inches scored at 5 inches.  Attach this mini card to the inside back of the card front.

Now just decorate the front of your card!

Don't forget, you can use any shape and any size/color strips you want. Alternating colored strips would also make for a fun patterned background, not to mention a great way to use up paper scraps!
