Have you seen our newest addition to the Encore Paper line? It's smooth cardstock that's perfect for stamping. Design Team Member Kate is here with a handmade Christmas card idea that uses stamping and heat embossing to create a shadow image of the main image. Even better, it makes 3 cards at one time. This Shadow Stamping tutorial is a fun stamped handmade Christmas card idea.

Shadow Stamping Tutorial
Start with three monochromatic colors (Kate used three shades of green). Cut each color into a panel measuring 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Then take those three panels and cut each one into three sections at 1 3/4 inches (see photo).

Mix and match the pieces so you have one of each color, then attach these three panels to a scrap/printer paper to form a new panel of cardstock that measures 4 x 5 1/4 inches.

Next, stamp your image in a coordinating ink (in this case-green). VERY IMPORTANT--this first stamping should be slightly off center to where the main stamp will be. This is the shadow.

Note: It is very important that this stamped image is completely dry. The next step requires heat embossing and you do not want your embossing powder to stick to the first stamped image. Kate allowed the first layer to dry for several hours.
Now for the heat embossing. Adjust the stamp to be exactly in the center of your card. Heat emboss this image with your desired embossing powder. The embossed image looks like it has a shadow!

This shadow stamping technique is a great Christmas card idea to mass produce and has very little bulk for mailing. Also, with all of the different color palettes and paper strip sizes, the varieties are endless. Just break out any large word stamps and get your Christmas cards off your to-do list.
Supplies:
