Design Team Member Kate is here today to share another floating card panel idea. She has made a version of this card with strips and with confetti dots, but she is here today with a fun twist, using Sandable Cardstock from Core'dinations.
Supplies:
- Window Pane Sandable Cardstock from Core'dinations
- Neenah Stardream in Onyx
- Sweet Tooth 100# Pop-Tone Cardstock
- Acetate
- Foam Squares
- Rectangle Infinity dies from Hero Arts, Leaf die from Spellbinders
- Sentiment Strip stamp from Brutus Monroe
Kate took a piece of the Window Pane Sandable Cardstock and sanded it (in all different directions). She owns a sanding block but a piece of sandpaper worked even better! (You can learn more about this sandable cardstock here). Sanding it reveals the inner color for a cool aged effect.
Next, Kate cut several rectangles from that piece and laid out a brick pattern on a sheet of acetate that was cut slightly larger than the desired final shape.
Kate used double sided tape to adhere the "bricks" to the acetate and then cut the bricks into a panel using a large rectangle die.
Kate adhered foam tape to the back of the "bricks" to pop up the panel. The leaf was cut from Neenah Stardream for some extra sheen.
Once completed, the bricks appear to float off the card. This cool floating illusion card idea can be adapted for lots of occasions and we love that she shared another cool idea for using sandable cardstock!

Hi. I’m a. little behind times but I love these card ideas. I can’t wait to make them. I want to make cards ahead to have on hand for different occasions. I will just leave the sentiment off until it is required. Thank you so much for all your ideas; much appreciated. I don’t have a die cut machine but I can make these using my cricut machine, I think.
Not trying to be a wise guy, but what is the purpose of the acetate? Couldn’t you just use the foam tape to stick the bricks directly to the card?
