Using Up Scrapbook Paper Scraps on Handmade Cards

Using Up Scrapbook Paper Scraps on Handmade Cards

Looking for a clever idea for using paper scraps? What better way to use them up than to create holiday cards with them.

Design Team member Kate here, back with another strips card idea and this one is perfect for mass producing cards. We'll use up scrapbook paper scraps AND get some handmade holiday cards made.
For this technique all you need are diecuts with large openings, such as circles or hearts or holiday shapes like a tree.  You can use whatever width of paper strips you have on hand, mix in some solid strips and even add some specialty cardstock like foil cardstock and glitter cardstock

How to Make Handmade Cards With Paper Scraps

handmade card featuring a die cut circle
For my first example card I'll use a circle die. Using the circle die, cut out the shape from the center of a cardstock panel measuring 4" x 5 1/4".
Use some double sided tape along the outside of the shape (on the back of the panel).
pattern paper strips handmade card idea
Place strips of patterned paper close to each other (in whatever direction you'd like).  Make sure they are butted up against each other tightly and that they reach from edge to edge of your die cut shape.
After you have finished filling in the shape, mount this onto an A2 card base. This covers the messy backside where the strip edges show.
Add a sentiment to the front (or not) and this card is done.
handmade birthday card
This idea works for lots of different shaped dies to make holiday themed cards...
  • Heart for Valentine’s Day
  • Oval for an Easter egg
  • Balloon (or circle) for birthday
  • Tree for Christmas
  • Circle or Ornament die for Christmas
  • Square for present (birthday or Christmas)
  • Leaf for Fall
  • Oval for pumpkin
  • Snowflake for Winter

I like it as much as Iris Folding, but it is easier and it’s a great way to use paper scraps. Thanks.
